Minns Government Environment and Energy Achievements
The Minns Labor Government has worked tirelessly to improve New South Wales environments and energy usage, with statewide achievements including:
- Climate Change: Legislated ambitious emission reduction targets and set up the Net Zero Commission. Incorporated climate change action into planning guidelines.
- Secured $230 million from the Commonwealth and $87.5 million from NSW in funding for upgrades to the state’s social housing to make cost-of-living relief available to all. Upgrades to 2,000 social housing properties as of March 2024.[GP1]
- Energy Security: Reached an agreement with Origin to ensure Eraring Power Station remains open until 2027, ensuring the lights stay on in NSW homes and businesses.
- Energy Bill Rebates: Delivering $1.1 billion of Commonwealth funds in immediate bill relief to all NSW households and small businesses and $435 million in NSW funding for energy rebates to around a third of NSW households. This includes an extra $100 million this year. These rebates come in the form of $250 to families and seniors and $350 to low-income households and those with medical conditions.
- Electric Vehicle Chargers: $199 million to support the installation of thousands of publicly-available EV charge ports. The NSW Government has awarded funding for more than 3,000 charge ports at more than 1,100 sites.
- Renewable Energy: Supported enough renewable projects to get us almost halfway towards our 2030 generation target.
- Environmental Protection: Delivered the biggest boost to environmental protection laws in more than 30 years.
- Koalas: Committed $172 million to save koalas in the wild
